My Immortal Shiptoast is a puzzle that combines fandom shipping name blending with the Ship of Theseus thought experiment. Each paragraph contains clues to the two characters being “shipped” and a definition or hint to the ship name, which is generally a real word or phrase. Between each paragraph, one character is kept while the other is replaced:
| Kept Character | Replaced Character | Definition / Hint | Ship Name |
|---|---|---|---|
| Edward Cullen | Bella Swan | not sleepy yet, and I’m not sure I want to head in that direction | BEDWARD |
| Bella Swan | River Song | final adventure | SWANSONG |
| River Song | Deadpool | a nice, calming beverage | OOLONG |
| Deadpool | Coraline | time limit | DEADLINE |
| Coraline | Solid Snake | such a venomous name | CORAL SNAKE |
| Solid Snake | Jace Beleren | comfort | SOLACE |
| Jace Beleren | Cheryl Tunt | let out a loud burp | BELCHER |
| Cheryl Tunt | Cheryl Blossom | come out and say it | BLUNT |
| Cheryl Blossom | Yogi Bear | beautiful gemstone. Maybe an emerald or an aquamarine | BERYL |
| Yogi Bear | Hawkeye Pierce | Eastern European dumplings | PIEROGI |
| Hawkeye Pierce | Red Foreman | an overnight one [...] Leave in the evening and arrive the next morning | REDEYE |
| Red Foreman | Ana Steele | a guy made of fortified iron | STEELMAN |
After each paragraph, an author notes that each of the ships includes some of their favorite characters. These notes indicate which letter positions from the answers are present in each of the ship names (although as the letters in the answer are not unique, a letter in a ship name can correspond to multiple positions). Using the collective information (or, in practice, a subset), it’s possible to logically determine which letters go in each position, yielding the puzzle’s answer: PYLON BUILDER.
