A Friendly Brunch is a zebra (or Einstein) logic puzzle. Teams had to identify the five brunch attendees (conveniently starting with the letters A-E, to provide an ordering) and what they ordered. Each attendee ordered one main dish and one side dish, and teams additionally had to determine the cost of each item. Once fully solved, teams could complete the given table:
| Diner | Main | Main Price | Side | Side Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Annette | MILK TOAST | $1 | BACON | $5 |
| Bruce | SCONE | $3 | CONGEE | $4 |
| Charlotte | FRENCH TOAST | $2 | WAFFLES | $1 |
| Dennis | CORN CAKES | $4 | POACHED EGG | $3 |
| Evelyn | MUFFIN | $5 | CRUMPETS | $2 |
The prices for each item could be used as an index into the item’s name. Reading the letters extracted from the mains first and then the sides yields the answer: MORNING WAR
| Item | Price | Letter |
|---|---|---|
| MILK TOAST | 1 | M |
| SCONE | 3 | O |
| FRENCH TOAST | 2 | R |
| CORN CAKES | 4 | N |
| MUFFIN | 5 | I |
| BACON | 5 | N |
| CONGEE | 4 | G |
| WAFFLES | 1 | W |
| POACHED EGG | 3 | A |
| CRUMPETS | 2 | R |
